What Types of Fragrances Last the Longest and How Can You Make Them Last Longer?

 Little Black Dress

The difference between each form of fragrance is simply the amount of oils in the fragrance.  These oils are called "juice" and  the juice determines the intensity of the fragrance.

  • Perfume (Parfum) has the highest concentrate of "juice" (20-40%) and usually lasts over 8 hours.
  • Eau de Parfum (10-20%) on average lasts 6 to 8 hours.
  • Eau de Toilette (5-15%) on average lasts 3 to 5 hours.
  • Eau de Cologne (2-8%) lasts up to 2 hours
The best way to get your fragrance to last longer is by layering. If the fragrance is offered in a body wash, start with that and you can add body lotion or hand lotion of the same scent.  Finally you add the perfume. The best place to spray the perfume is on your pulse points which give off heat and help release the scent.  These pulse points include your wrists, inner elbows, temples, neck hollow, behind the ears, and behind the knees. Just don't overdo it.  One too many spritzes and everyone around you gets a headache!  A good rule is just one or two drops of perfume, up to three sprays of eau de parfum, up to four of eau de toilette and no more than six of cologne.  Over time you become "noseblind" so resist the urge to overdo the layering.

Avon offers has many fragrances, for both men and women, that offer products for layering. The very popular Imari offers: antiperspirant, shimmering body powder, shower gel, body lotion and Eau de Toilette Spray.
